There were more than two hundred applications from students of the twelve School Of Design and Arts courses.
Fifty nine entries underwent an elimination process, where nineteen semi-finalists were chosen for
a month-long exhibit at the School's Amphitheater. Among the remaining entries, twelve were selected
during the unveiling, to grace the pages of the Figaro Calendar, with one grand winner to serve as the
cover design. Winning works were selected based on adherence to the theme, “Coffee and Art”, where a
cup of coffee should be presented in a way that brought great value and significance to the chosen situation.
Cindel Tiausas, a fourth year student from the Arts Management course,
took home the gold for her work, “Midmorning Respite.” In a public blog
written immediately after the unveiling, she shared her sentiments upon
hearing her name called as the competition's grand winner, “ As my name
was announced, I sort of blanked out for a few seconds, and shortly following
was a blur of smiles, thank yous, hand shaking, flashing cameras.”
Cindel won a Mac Mini package from Power Mac Center, premium
software package plus two free training classes from Diversitec Distributors
and A-Train Academy, a Powershot Camera and a Selphy Photo Printer from Canon
Marketing Philippines Inc., a limited edition Anniversary Bag from Crumpler,
and a flat screen LCD monitor, gift certificates, and merchandise from Figaro.
She adds, “ It was like five Christmases worth of presents in a single haul.
I came home with three large totes of goodies and several boxes of stuff.”
The finalists who also walked away with various gifts from the
co-sponsors and Figaro were: Lorraine Datuin (Arts Management),
Amanda Joanna Nava (Production Design), and Jose Mari Quiblat, Paolo
Antonio Seen, Chris Angelo Perez, Martin Sitoy, Randolph Maribojoc,
and Mikael Tubilleja (Multimedia Arts).
The release of the 2008 Figaro Calendar is expected sometime this November.
